Job description: The Lead Web Developer is responsible for the technical leadership and oversight of the college website and other related applications. The role will be responsible for architectural guidance, and implementation of college web strategies. The core responsibilities would be to oversee the development and architecture of our public and intranet web sites. They will be responsible for building and managing vendor relationships to ensure systems meet the needs of the campus and provide the appropriate service levels. This position will manage the day-to-day tasks and mentor a dedicated team of web developers to ensure stable operation of the college’s web infrastructure.

This position reports to the Executive Director of Applications and Infrastructure. This position directly provides day-to-day direction, leadership, management, and guidance to the web developers.

May include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Write, explore, recommend, and review code, primarily in Drupal.

Run functionality testing and debug code.

Provide assessment of current state web architecture and design, recommend, implement, and maintain future state architecture.

Provide mentorship, and advisory services to the web team to ensure that solutions are in line with the architectural direction and college strategies.

Completes development by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities; contributing to team meetings; troubleshooting development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms.

Identify architectural risks and plans to mitigate risks, adhere to standards, and best practices.

Collaborate with Marketing and Enrollment to understand strategic goals, user, and system requirements of the website.

Prioritize development projects, set timelines, and assign tasks to team members.

Work across the product owners to ensure adherence to technical standards, design principles and architecture patterns.

Maintain documents / artifacts from templates working with extended IT and teams across the college.

Influences and communicates effectively with non-technical audiences including product owners and college management.

Maintain a broad knowledge of new technology tools and trends.

Demonstrate strong problem-solving ability and analytical skills.

Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of certifications and/or experience. A minimum five years of hands-on experience with PHP, including Drupal, Symfony or other similar frameworks. Ab Scrum master or team lead experience preferred. Knowledge of LAMP stack and general infrastructure knowledge preferred.

Excellent verbal/written communication, collaboration, analytical and presentation skills to lead an environment driven by customer service and teamwork; must be able to set goals and participate in strategic initiatives for a team and interface with all levels of the organization. Ability to participate in development of resource plans and structures.


Additional Salary Information: Remote work possible; preference to come to campus for annual retreat. While not the norm incumbent will be expected to be reachable and perform work after-hours and on weekends in response to emergencies or needs that may arise.

Expected salary: $80000 – 95000 per year
