Department Summary

As the chief communications organization for the University of North Texas, the Division of University Brand Strategy and Communications collaborates with internal and external partners to:

  • Advance and protect UNT’s institutional identity and reputation.
  • Reinforce and grow UNT’s brand in graphics, images and words.
  • Increase UNT’s visibility in public and in the higher education marketplace.
  • Support UNT’s student recruitment, retention and graduation goals.
  • Strengthen UNT’s relevance and value to key audiences, including alumni, donors, faculty and staff members, and encourage community engagement.

Position Overview

Advanced technical support of mission critical university level websites, including pre-project planning, information architecture design, user-interface/user experience design, google analytic support, salesforce database marketing support, Drupal site building, training, content and client management. This position requires specialized web knowledge and skills to support the creation and maintenance of UNT’s top-level web presence sites, and the Marketing Automation Platform for student recruitment in support of UBSC’s and the university’s goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to writing HTML documents, develop content, create graphics, digitize pictures, and insert audio and video. • Knowledge of HTML, HTML editing tools, JavaScript, Visual Basic, Websphere, graphic design software or other web authoring languages. • Knowledge of HTML/CSS/Content management system best practices. • Ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to accomplish goals. • Ability to translate UX (user experience) documents, business requirements and/or wireframes into professionally designed, fully functional web properties.

Job Duties

o

Understand UNT’s mission, strategic themes and goals, and illustrates them in web site design to support recruitment, retention and graduation rates and to generate support for the university.
o

Works in a team environment by sharing expertise and reaching consensus in the creation of web projects. Manages web development library and alerts team and supervisor when new documentation is posted
o

Meets established strategic goals, and deadlines for web projects; Follows UBSC processes and works collaboratively with PMO and project team members to keep projects running on time. Completion of UBSC web pre-launch checklist and no more than two instances of websites launching behind schedule will verify this standard is being met.
o

Researches, suggests and implements new standards for site planning, SEO, site management, and user experience and information architecture. Is an advocate for steady improvement of web practices at UNT. Early communication to teammates and the Manager as to the feasibility of new web practices that can be accomplished within the project timeline.
o

Utilizes specialized skills to create, organize and plan site components and functionality to accomplish better usability and delivery across multiple platforms. Uses web checklist and online resources to verify sites before they launch to insure cross-platform compatibility. Collaborates with the manager to determine projects on which to implement new functionality.
o

Demonstrates proficiency using web development tools. Learns new technologies as they become available and participates in planning for implementation. Discussion with the Manager as project is initiated and develops. Communicates to supervisor about new technologies and how they might be used on upcoming projects.
o

Maintains the accuracy of UNT Web pages as assigned and enhances UNT’s web presence following professional web standards and UNT and State guidelines for accessibility compliance. Adherence to accessibility section of the UBSC web Pre-launch checklist and site verification through online resources will verify standards are being met.
o

Cooperates with UBSC staff and departmental contacts to change incorrect online information and update sites to insure the University is well represented and audiences get the most correct information in a timely manner as needed. Feedback from UBSC staff and departmental contacts as well as keeping these projects on track inside of the project management system indicate standards are being met.
o

Tests web pages and sites for broken links, spelling and for compatibility with modern web browsers before publication. Sign off on UBSC project checklist will indicate standards are being met. No more that one instance of sites launching that are not compatible with Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.
o

Coordinates website launches by creating redirect inventories, and scheduling launches with UNT web hosting team. Communicates launch schedule with clients and IT hosting team will determine standard are being met. Alerts manage if problems arise.
o

Coordinates with external clients to create, compile and edit content throughout a project’s lifecycle. Completion of project and meeting strategic goals will determine standards are being met.
o

Initiates and completes pre-project planning tasks for projects external to UBSC. Completion of project brief and project deliverables in the form of site maps, timeline and content goals for external projects will determine standards are being met.
o

Clearly communicates web specific standards and strategies to other departments to enhance UNT’s web presence. Attendance and participation at web kickoff/strategy meetings will verify this standard is being met.
o

Schedules and performs post-launch client training. Successful completion of scheduled training sessions will indicate standards are being met.
o

Participates in the creation of university web policies or standards. Attendance and participation at web strategy meeting will verify this standard is being met.
o

Develops content strategy and information architecture plan for web projects; keeping user experience a priority. Execution of agreed upon content plan and calls to action as well as adjustment to content plan based on team feedback indicate standards are being met.
o

Participates in applying audience specific research and behavior when planning site structure and determining calls to action with web work teams. Reviewed as part of process as needed. Asks target specific questions at the beginning of projects. Participates in card sorting exercises within work team to determine appropriate calls to action. Follows internal review process with team and Manager to verify accuracy on this.
o

Supports the division’s Marketing Automation Platform by assisting in the creation of user communication flows, and provides input on design and layout of email deliverables. Delivers prototype documents to communicate user flow strategies to UBSC team and clients. Provides wireframes and/or design mockups to illustrate design concepts.
o

Supports the division’s analytic reporting for mission critical initiatives. No more than two instances of missing the delivery of a report will verify this standard is being met.
